Curriculum overview

The curriculum at Rushcroft Foundation School is broad and balanced.  We know that the courses we offer motivate students to achieve their best and prepare them for life in the twenty first century.

We have a curriculum that:

Has a broad core intellectual foundation and provides students with sufficient

  • Content knowledge

  • Key skills
  • Wide experiences
  • Competitive qualities, attributes and qualifications
  • Personal motivation to discover innate passions.

Key Stage 3

Year 7 brings exciting new lessons for students.  For example they will study the Modern Foreign Language of Spanish and also experience real Science experiments in laboratory conditions.  We build on learning which has taken place in primary school in the vital core areas of English and Maths.

Our specialisms of The Arts, Sports and Humanities are strengths of the school.  In Years 7, 8 and 9 students also experience regular lessons of Geography, History, ICT, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Design Technology, Food Technology, Music, Drama and Art.  Over many years we have had an excellent reputation for first class delivery of PE, Dance and Art.

Our Curriculum time is dedicated to developing the whole child with our extensive provision of leadership opportunities and accreditations, delivered through lessons and our Citizenship, Personal and Social Development drop down days and our exciting school Olympics events. Students have access to a wide range of technology in their learning not only through our discrete ICT lessons, but also through interactive white boards, ipad technology and online learning through our VLE.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11 we strive to deliver a curriculum that meets the individual needs of every learner.  We offer a wide range of traditional GCSEs whilst also providing a number of modern vocational courses.  By delivering success for our students in these courses, they are well prepared for further study in our Sixth Form and beyond. In order to ensure our learners take the best choices for themselves we direct them into the pathways at KS4 thus giving them the best opportunity to be competitive in the markets they find themselves once they leave school.

More able students who achieve are directed to Ebacc subjects. This means Spanish plus Geography or History plus one option. All other students are given three options which may still include the Ebacc subjects.

Our current GCSE & Vocational Options at Key Stage 4 are as follows:

History, Geography, Triple Science, ICT, Catering, Resistant Materials, Psychology, Physical Education, Drama, Music, Art, Spanish and Religious Studies.
